Chancel Work Volunteers, TODAY: We will be making some modifications to the chancel to give us more flexibility and increased safety for our choir. The property committee will be removing the uppermost level of the chancel so that the whole chancel is one level. This is an interim modification until planning and budget allow for more holistic sanctuary renovations. This will be done in-house by members and at minimal cost, but we need help. The work begins TODAY and continues each subsequent evening. Contact Andrew Larsen if you want to help.

The 1619 Project: The Anti-Racism Committee will be hosting viewings of the documentary “The 1619 Project” on Mondays, September 18, 25, & October 2 from 7:00-9:00 PM. The series seeks to reframe the country’s history by placing the consequences of slavery and the contributions of Black Americans at the very center of our national narrative. After each viewing we will discuss the episode over light snacks.

Morris Habitat for Humanity, September 20: Morris Habitat for Humanity is constructing a 12-unit condominium complex on Morris Avenue, Summit. Construction is well underway, but the project is still experiencing opposition and a great deal of misinformation being communicated by a handful of Summit residents. They are seeking to assemble a group of Habitat for Humanity supporters who live in Summit who can serve as Key Communicators to work with us to ensure that factual information is being shared. In this brilliant, heartbreaking book, Desmond takes us into the poorest neighborhoods of Milwaukee to tell the story of eight families on the edge. The 1619 Project: The Anti-Racism Committee will be hosting viewings of the documentary “The 1619 Project” on Mondays, September 18, 25, & October 2 from 7:00-9:00 PM. The series seeks to reframe the country’s history by placing the consequences of slavery and the contributions of Black Americans at the very center of our national narrative. After each viewing we will discuss the episode over light snacks.

Dialogue Circles on Race are facilitated conversations about race and the history of systemic racism in American society. A Dialogue Circle (6-15 participants) meets for five weeks, for two hours at a time. Co-led by trained facilitators, the group members discuss challenging readings, learn to listen deeply to one another’s experiences, and move forward in their individual journeys toward understanding and dismantling structural racism. A shared commitment to attending all five sessions ensures that participants will experience the full curriculum and can develop trust and connection within the group. Volunteer Puppy Raisers Needed: The Seeing Eye, in Morristown is seeking volunteer puppy raisers from all walks of life who will nurture and care for their puppies from 7 weeks of age until they are about 15 months old. The volunteer foster family provides love, care, obedience training and social exposure to assist the puppy in becoming a future Seeing Eye dog. Puppies are taught basic manners and commands and are socialized to a variety of social situations and experiences. The Seeing Eye provides lots of support to its volunteer puppy raisers.
